Hepatology / Liver Clinic

Procedure

Hepatology / Liver Clinic

Dedicated hepatology care for fatty liver (NAFLD and NASH), hepatitis B and C, alcohol-related liver disease, cirrhosis, jaundice workup, and liver transplant evaluation. Non-invasive fibrosis assessment by Fibroscan is available in-house.

What is it?

The Liver Clinic is a dedicated outpatient service for patients with any form of liver disease. We see fatty liver (NAFLD and NASH), chronic hepatitis B, hepatitis C, alcohol-related liver disease, cirrhosis and its complications, and jaundice of any cause.

Care is coordinated under one roof: blood work, Fibroscan for liver stiffness and fat, ultrasound, endoscopic surveillance where needed, and ongoing follow-up with the hepatology team.

Who needs it?

  • Abnormal liver function tests of any cause.
  • Known fatty liver disease, with or without symptoms.
  • Chronic hepatitis B or hepatitis C, before, during and after treatment.
  • Alcohol-related liver disease.
  • Cirrhosis at any stage, including those needing transplant evaluation.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice).

How it works

You will be seen by a consultant hepatologist for a focused history and examination.

A tailored set of investigations is ordered: blood panel, viral markers where relevant, Fibroscan, and imaging as needed.

A plan is agreed with you: lifestyle steps, medication, surveillance schedule, and where appropriate, referral for transplant assessment.

Preparation

  • Bring previous blood reports and any imaging discs.
  • For Fibroscan, fast for 3 hours before the appointment.

Recovery

  • No recovery is required. Most consultations are completed in a single visit.

Risks

Outpatient consultation carries no procedural risk. Any tests carrying their own risks (e.g. liver biopsy, if needed) are discussed individually.

Common questions

Things patients ask us.

Do I need a biopsy?

For most fatty liver and hepatitis patients, Fibroscan and blood tests give us enough information. A biopsy is reserved for selected cases.

Can fatty liver reverse?

In early stages, yes, with sustained lifestyle change and treatment of related conditions like diabetes and lipids.
